Associated completed a Well Protection Plan on five community water supply wells operated by the Sunshine Coast Regional District.
The objectives were to develop a better understanding of the risks to the water supply sources, and to develop recommendations to improve drinking water safety. These objectives were met by delineating aquifer protection areas around each well, completing an inventory of hazards within each aquifer protection area, ranking the risk of each hazard, and providing recommendations.
A community open house was also facilitated, and a presentation was delivered to the District council. This project allowed the District to improve operational components, such as additional water testing, and to budget for capital works projects such as well-head improvements.
