Indigenous Commitment
Advancing RECONCILIATION
We are committed to building positive and productive, mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous Peoples, based on trust, understanding, and respect. We are committed to improving our understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and values, in order to improve our service to and relationships with Indigenous Peoples. In partnership with Indigenous Peoples, we are dedicated to taking action to advance reconciliation.
Improving INFRASTRUCTURE
Our commitment is based on our long history of working with hundreds of Indigenous Communities on thousands of projects across Canada. We have collaborated with Indigenous Peoples to design and build facilities that have supported sustainable development and become ingrained in the fabric of their communities, including water and wastewater systems, roads and bridges, schools, and community and cultural gathering centres.
WORKING TOGETHER with Indigenous Communities
We are committed to improving our understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and values, so we can improve our service to and relationships with the Indigenous communities in which we work and the Indigenous Peoples who we partner with.
In support of this commitment, we have created an Indigenous Commitment Working Group and developed an Indigenous Commitment Policy and Action Plan.
Supporting FUTURE GENERATIONS
We have partnered with Indigenous companies and communities to assist us in delivering projects, and recruit Indigenous candidates for employment. Our staff provide presentations and mentorship to Indigenous children to encourage education in STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We have also committed to providing financial awards for Indigenous youth to support their post-secondary education.
As part of our Indigenous Commitment, provide education and training in Indigenous history, culture, and values. We have prepared a guide for staff to assist with Indigenous Engagement and Communication on projects. We proactively engage Indigenous Community Leaders, Elders, Knowledge-keepers on projects.
