Pomerleau Inc. retained Associated Engineering to undertake load rating and analysis for heavy haul analysis of the St. Paul street bridge to facilitate heavy construction loads crossing the bridge. A full finite element model was developed to determine the load spreading throughout the structure.
The heavy haul equipment consisted of both wheeled and tracked machinery including excavators, drill rigs and cranes. All load evaluation was undertaken in accordance with CHBDC Chapter 14 and utilizing the existing drawings of the structure. Several of the crossings required Permit Controlled conditions limiting the crossing conditions of the vehicles.
