In May 2016, the Horse River Wildfire crossed the wildland/urban interface in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) resulting in the costliest natural disaster in Canadian history.
The RMWB engaged NOR•EX Engineering to provide the leadership of the Recovery Task Force, disaster recovery planning and execution, community resilience planning, and the strategic development to frame the recovery of the region. For over one year, the Team Leader reported directly to the Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee and provided updates, advice, and guidance to that committee as well as to the Mayor and Council.

Project Highlights
NOR•EX Engineering worked collaboratively with the RMWB, industry, the provincial government and community stakeholders to develop strategies and enable the recovery of the region. From playing a key role in neighbourhood re-entry to delivering on a detailed three-year recovery plan, NOR•EX Engineering led all aspects of recovery planning and execution.
