Increasing the capacity of the City of Red Deer’s Water Treatment Plant to meet potable water demands for decades to come required innovative thinking and the expertise to meet regulatory requirements and challenging worksite conditions.
Working in conjunction with the City, Associated Engineering and sub-consultants designed and installed a new a three-conduit bank intake to complement the existing mid-stream intake, as well as a new Screen Building featuring regulatory-compliant travelling screens to replace older screens. Total capacity of the intake system was tripled to 250 ML/d. Maintaining uninterrupted service was achieved through careful planning while following an aggressive construction schedule.
