The Cowichan Valley Regional District retained a team of Architects, Engineers and Landscape Architects for the design and construction of the Kerry Park Recreational Sports Field Complex.
The project consists of three full-field baseball facilities, a soccer field, skate board park, playground, amenity buildings, parking and walkways. Associated Engineering provided civil engineering and landscape architect services for the project.
The initial works included drainage treatments that addressed the impacts of runoff and infiltration into adjacent farms. A major earthworks project was required to clear, grub and level the wooded site for the fields. Sand was sourced from a local pit and tested to meet stringent requirements of a USGA sand-based field.
Unique Features
- Using Allan block retaining walls maximized total playing surface area.
- Installing a pump house and drainage structure on the adjacent farm land reduced off-site impacts.
- Procuring water rights minimized irrigation costs.
- Sand sourced form local pits met the performance standards USGA specified sand at 30% of the cost of USGA manufactured sand.
