The City of Kitchener retained Associated Engineering to provide engineering services for the design, investigative studies, tendering, contract administration, site inspection and post-construction for this pumping station project.
The overall purpose of this project was to upgrade the existing Homer Watson Pump Station in accordance with the Standards of the City and meet the peak design flow rate of 309 L/s.
AE undertook investigative studies for the geotechnical conditions and topographical surveys. As the pump station is adjacent to Schneider Creek, and the storage tank is located on a flood plain, the design had to comply with specific requirements of the local design and approval agencies. AE was also required to obtain ‘Approvals’ for MOE sewage, air & noise, site planning with GRCA and building permits. A Public Information Centre was held with City staff to inform the local residents.

Project Highlights
The AE team provided design services from conceptual design leading to the preliminary design at which the design brief document was approved by the City. The subsequent 60% and 90% detailed design stages provided a set of drawings with process, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, electrical, and I & C disciplines. Regular internal and client meetings and presentations were held.
