The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure engaged Associated Engineering to provide detailed design for the upgrading of the Highway 1 / Mountain Highway interchange to improve connectivity to / from the adjacent municipal road network and improve capacity and safety on Highway 1.
Key features of the upgrade include:
- A new partial diamond interchange and on/off ramps on Highway 1
- A new five-lane Mountain Highway underpass
- Widening the median and outside shoulders on Highway 1
- Realignment and widening of Mountain Highway from two to four lanes
- A new pedestrian tunnel across Mountain Highway
- Reconfiguration of the existing Brooksbank Avenue / Keith Road intersection
- Widening of Keith Road and Brooksbank Avenue
- Improving pedestrian and cycling facilities and connectivity
- Environmental and drainage enhancements, including creek realignment
