In March 2011, the City of Kelowna retained Associated Engineering to complete the detailed design and construction management for the relocation of Glenmore Landfill Entrance Area.
The layout of the current entrance has been modified several times, but congestion at peak times has led to queuing onto Glenmore Road and adversely affected the operations of that corridor.
The preliminary design for the new entrance envisioned a new arterial road south of the landfill from which access to the site would be gained. This arterial is to ultimately connect through to the University of BC Okanagan and Highway 97. The entrance itself included new roads of sufficient length and width to accommodate queuing of landfill traffic, four new weigh scales, scale houses, public washroom, a hazardous waste drop off building, recycling facility, new transfer station, and a state-of-the art wheel wash facility for landfill trucks.
