Designated a Canadian Heritage Structure, the City of Welland’s historic West Main Street Bridge had experienced severe corrosion over the years.
The Regional Municipality of Niagara retained Associated Engineering to complete design and oversee construction to refurbish the 85 year old bridge, which is a local landmark and vital transportation link in the Region.
Associated’s design of the rehabilitation works restored the structure while minimizing impact to residents, businesses, traffic, and the environment. The bridge’s new intelligent LED lighting system reduces energy costs and provides an aesthetic feature, with changing colours to mark special events and holidays, contributing to Downtown Welland’s Revitalization.
