The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure engaged Associated Engineering to provide detailed design for the upgrading of the Highway 1 / Mountain Highway interchange to improve connectivity to / from the adjacent municipal road network and improve capacity and safety on Highway 1.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • A new partial diamond interchange and on/off ramps on Highway 1
  • A new five-lane Mountain Highway underpass
  •  Widening the median and outside shoulders on Highway 1
  • Realignment and widening of Mountain Highway from two to four lanes
  • A new pedestrian tunnel across Mountain Highway
  • Reconfiguration of the existing Brooksbank Avenue / Keith Road intersection
  • Widening of Keith Road and Brooksbank Avenue
  • Improving pedestrian and cycling facilities and connectivity
  • Environmental and drainage enhancements, including creek realignment
