The City of Saskatoon engaged Associated Engineering in conjunction with CH2M Hill to complete the preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration services for upgrades that include a new treated water storage reservoir, high lift pump station, and ultraviolet disinfection.
The primary objective of the project is to provide sufficient storage to allow the plant to be operated at a constant maximum day flow rate rather than rapidly changing plant production levels to meet peak hour demands. Given the limited availability of land around the existing Water Treatment Plant site, the new reservoir design contained a number design challenges to meet the required storage objectives, which included property constraints, proximity to the existing reservoir, ground conditions, and maintaining traffic.
