Associated Engineering is a key team member on this Design-Build-Operate project for the Capital Regional District‘s Residuals Treatment Facility.
The facility will receive and stabilize the residuals (e.g. primary sludge and waste activated sludge) from the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant, a 108 million litres/day tertiary treatment plant. The Residuals Treatment Facility will also receive and stabilize hauled wastes from the region.
Associated Engineering is the design lead and together with the constructors, technology provider, and operator, is implementing a facility that will process various municipal sludges and cakes up to 3.7 million litres/day, including influent equalization (over 3,800 cubic metres), thickening (gravity belt thickeners), anaerobic digestion (three, over 7,000 cubic metre digesters), digested sludge storage (over 4,500 cubic metres), biogas storage (over 4,000 cubic metres), biogas conditioning, digested sludge dewatering (centrifuges), beneficial use of biogas, cake drying, and heat recovery.

Client
Capital Regional District

Project Highlights
The facility also includes an operations/administration building, water storage and fire pumping, as well as a sophisticated odour control system to handle the potential odours from the material.
Learn more about the Residuals Treatment Facility in this video (from 3:30 mark).
