KEYERA Energy retained Associated Engineering to provide engineering design and project management services for the construction of a new brine pond located at their Ft. Saskatchewan plant site.
The plant site has two existing brine ponds. The expansion of their plant operation required additional on-site brine storage; the new pond would provide KEYERA with a storage capacity of up to 615,000 m3.
The project began with engineering design and industrial application to Alberta Environment for regulatory approvals. The pond containment system is an 80 millimetre high density polyethylene (HDPE) primary liner, a geonet leak detection layer, a 60 millimetre HDPE secondary liner, and sub-drain system to control the local groundwater flow. The interconnection that ties the new pond to the plant is a brine transfer line that fills and drains the pond, and a newly dedicated pump that functions with the existing pump system.
Throughout the project, Associated Engineering provided on-site engineering support and project management to ensure project success.
