The City of Surrey is developing a Neighborhood Cycling Route between Surrey City Centre and the Port Mann Bridge.
The Bon Accord Pedestrian Bridge is an important part of the planned route, providing a crossing on the 109th Avenue corridor between 143A and 144 Street over Bon Accord Creek. In 2013, the City retained Associated Engineering, with a sub-consultant to complete the preliminary and detailed design, as well as provide construction services for the Bon Accord Pedestrian Bridge.

Project Highlights
During preliminary design, we developed several feasible design solutions, including single span and multiple span options. Following the City’s options evaluation process, we developed the selected design, which consists of a three-span, composite steel box girder bridge supported by concrete columns and micro-piled foundations. The design of the foundations required careful consideration of the stability of the steep-sided Bon Accord Ravine, which resulted in micro-piles and inclined soil anchors. In addition to the bridge, approach pathways and landscaping, the design also included the incorporation of aesthetic multi-coloured guardrails and complementary coloured concrete throughout the structure.
Associated Engineering liaised with local residents through an open house and tailored the design of the approaches to complement the adjacent residential properties. The bridge is located immediately adjacent to a park on the east approach and the project included regrading and landscaping elements.
