The 100,000 hectare Amaruq property is located on Inuit-owned federal crown land in Nunavut, which contains significant gold-bearing zones.
Ore extracted from the Amaruq mine will be transported using truck trains along a 65 kilometre long mine access road for processing at the company’s adjacent Meadowbank mine property.
Associated Engineering completed the detailed design for nine bridges of various lengths at a remote gold mine site in Nunavut. The bridges involved clear-span lengths of 14 metres, 45 metres and 67 metres using precast concrete modular deck panels and integral abutments using precast ballast walls. The steel girder system, with multiple splices and transverse and longitudinal stiffeners, was designed for very heavy dump trucks, mining excavators and haul-truck trains. The design for the fabricator included design of launch noses for launched-girder installation over the sensitive riparian habitat. Design effort focused on modular construction using prefabricated components that were shipped from various plants across Canada for the ultra-remote site, and on the extreme weather conditions.
Our engineering scope included detailed design, construction support, detailed inspections and maintenance planning.
