Associated conducted a Biophysical Impact Assessment for the relocation of the 37th Street storm trunk from Tsuut’ina First Nation lands to cross the sensitive Weaselhead Flats Natural Environmental Area in North Glenmore Park in Calgary.
The project involved constructing over 200 metres of storm trunk, 350 metres of permanent access road, and a new outfall structure, spillway, stilling basin and outflow channel into the Glenmore Reservoir, which provides drinking water for the City.
We completed a triple bottom line alternative assessment to evaluate the economic, social, and environment effects of two options for the linear structures and to select the least impactful option. The subsequent Biophysical Impact Assessment entailed collecting desktop and field baseline information on wildlife, aquatic, vegetation, soils and geology, hydrology, and historical components of the project area. The work included assessing project impacts, developing mitigation and protection plans for construction an operation phases, and assessing residual and cumulative effects.
