Episode 11 – Strategic Advisory Services

Craig MacDonald, a Climate Data & Application Advisor with the Strategic Advisory Services team based in our Calgary office, joins the podcast to discuss his experiences. Craig has worked on emerging clean transportation technologies and has experience with both Federal and Municipal governments, supporting climate and infrastructure planning and policy, in addition to transportation, water, and wastewater planning. Recently, Craig has also been part of a team that put together the Closing the Infrastructure Gap by 2030 Report for the Assembly of First Nations and Indigenous Services Canada.

Episode 10 – 2024 In Review

Season One included nine episodes for AE Live, and covered topics from seismic retrofitting to traffic planning and Intelligent Transportation Systems, to engineering and environmental work in Canada’s northern territories, to bringing international engineering experience to Canadian communities. Episode 9: Community Infrastructure

For our final episode of 2024, Tonderai Chakanyuka talks about beginning his career in Zimbabwe, moving to the United Kingdom, and then eventually finding his way to Canada. This international experience gives him a unique perspective on delivering infrastructure to communities who often have to balance competing needs of aging infrastructure, climate change, and budgets.

Host Michael Tolboom talks about Canada’s changing climate, the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, and strategies for improved climate resilience, on this episode of AE Live. Our guest is Twyla Kowalczyk, Associated’s Manager, Strategic Advisory Services, and Discipline Lead, Climate Resilience. She joins Michael to talk about how her career went from river engineering to climate change resilience and recovering from the impacts of climate change. Highlighting their interview is a discussion of Twyla’s role in helping the City of Calgary manage the flooding in 2013, and how cities prepare for extreme weather events.

Episode 7: Transit & Transportation

In the next episode of AE Live, Kent Eklund, Senior Vice President, Transportation discusses his experience in transportation. Kent explains how transportation planning has changed over the years, and how the availability of information has revolutionized how planners determine municipal development. He also shares his thoughts on some major projects going on across Canada, and how light rail transportation and bus rapid transit are important for the future growth of cities and managing traffic flows on existing infrastructure.

Episode 5 and 6 Featuring Judy Yu

This month’s podcast is a 2-part interview with Judy Yu, AE’s Discipline Lead, Data Management & ITS. Judy worked with the City of Calgary’s Transportation Department for years, managing major Intelligent Transportation Systems programs and projects. Her work focuses on innovation, operational improvements, sustainability, and information management. She is also a transportation asset management specialist for roadway network and transit infrastructure.

In Part 1, our host Michael Tolboom talks with Judy about the path her career has taken, getting value from infrastructure, and optimizing data management and how’s it’s being managed in municipalities. Part 2 touches on AI, data and asset management, and Judy’s work with AE’s Strategic Advisory Services.
