Environmental Assessment

Prior to the start of construction, Associated Environmental completed an environmental inventory of the project footprint.

This identified two wetlands that would have been impacted by the project. A detailed wetland impact assessment was completed to meet the requirements of the City of Calgary’s Wetland Conservation Plan. One small wetland could not be avoided, and we obtained Water Act approval through liaison with the City and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. The second wetland was avoided through a modification of the interchange design.

Associated provided additional environmental support by preparing an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for the project. The size and complexity of the site required a detailed plan with revisions as the project progressed. Advisory support involving the plan included site visits, water quality sample collection, and review of subsequent data. We also reviewed the construction contractor’s Environmental Construction Operations Plan for compliance with the City’s framework document prior to the start of construction.
